Case Study: Live Production Trends with Streaming Media Live | NAB 2024

At Streaming Media Live, our core mission has always been simple: deliver reliable, broadcast-quality signals from anywhere in the world to wherever they need to go. The Challenge

For decades, our operations were built around satellite trucks, microwave links, and fixed fiber infrastructure. While these tools remain critical for major broadcasts, they can be costly, time-intensive, and inflexible especially for point-to-point feeds, remote locations, or fast-moving productions.

As client needs evolved, we saw increasing demand for faster deployment, lower transmission costs, redundant and mobile workflow, and reliable alternatives to traditional satellite and microwave systems.

We needed a solution that could complement and in many cases replace legacy transmission methods without compromising quality or reliability. As our goal was to modernize our transmission model while maintaining broadcast standards. We wanted a system that could function as both primary and backup transmission, scale across diverse event types and environments, integrate seamlessly with our existing satellite and control room infrastructure, and support multi-camera, multi-audio workflows with minimal on-site footprint.

At Streaming Media Live, our role is to deliver reliable, broadcast-quality transmission across sports, entertainment, and live events. By integrating LiveU into our workflow, we’ve expanded beyond traditional satellite and microwave infrastructure to support faster deployment, reduced transmission costs, and greater flexibility in the field. LiveU has become both a primary and backup transmission solution, allowing us to confidently operate in venues where fiber or microwave would be impractical or cost-prohibitive.

This technology has enabled a wide range of real-world applications, including point-to-point camera feeds for awards shows, multi-camera and multi-audio transmission for boxing and MMA, and large-scale international sports distribution using SRT and Matrix to reach multiple broadcasters simultaneously. With bonded cellular, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and satellite augmentation, including Starlink when needed, we can adapt to fluctuating network conditions while remotely monitoring performance and troubleshooting in real time.

The Solution

The result is a simplified, scalable transmission model that maintains broadcast standards while opening the door to new locations, workflows, and production opportunities.
